Just to highlight this real quick before the next update goes out. Not a month has passed since iOS 8.1.1 went live, and Apple has already pushed out iOS 8.1.2 on December 9th. The former is clearly delivered to address the crucial bugs and performance issues of iOS 8 that hasn’t yet been fixed on iOS 8.1.
iOS 8.1.2 is no different this time around; it contains minor bug fixes and security improvements, but more importantly, restores missing ringtones that were purchased through iTunes, if you happen to be the person still buys ringtones rather than creating your own M4R files.
While this update is a mere 28.2MB (exact size differs between devices), be ready to allocate at least 15 minutes, for the download and the “preparing to update” stages take a long time to complete.
As always, remember to perform the ritual that is backing up your iOS device through iTunes or iCloud before updating the operating system. It is available on all devices that can run iOS 8, which include:
- iPhone 4S
- iPhone 5
- iPhone 5c
- iPhone 5s
- iPod touch 5th generation
- iPad 2
- iPad with Retina display
- iPad Air
- iPad mini
- iPad mini with Retina display
If you haven’t already, go to ‘Settings > General > Software Update’ to initiate the download. Apple has already released Beta 3 of iOS 8.2 to developers, and it won’t be long until the next iOS point-update goes live for the masses (around Spring 2015).
