Maxis announced three new additions to its product lineup last Thursday at an event held at their corporate office. The offerings include partnerships with Spotify, for its Premium streaming service, as well as with Google, for its Chromecast streaming device.

First highlight of the event was a limitless and free access to Spotify Premium for Maxis users. Prior to this, the Spotify partnership allowed Maxis to offer the premium service for a monthly fee of RM 10 (discounted from the usual RM 14.90 subscription fee). With the new Music Now offer, subscribers to either Maxis postpaid or Hotlink prepaid services will only need to ensure that they have a monthly recurring 1 GB data plan and they will be automatically eligible for a free Spotify Premium service. The offer not only covers the monthly Spotify Premium subscription but Maxis is also waiving the data charges for the streaming during this promo period. The free streaming is only valid until July 31st, after which existing subscribers will have the option to adopt a new plan that Maxis will be announcing towards the end of the promo. To activate the service, users will need click on the Music Now banner that can be found within the MyMaxis app.

The second piece of good news that was shared is the official introduction of the Chromecast dongle in Malaysia; with Maxis snagging an exclusive partnership for the next 4 months. In case you didn’t already know, Chromecast allows users to to wirelessly broadcast media from any supported devices onto a bigger screen (e.g. TV or a projector) via a HDMI port using the Chromecast app. MaxisONE plan subscribers will be able to purchase the Chromecast device for RM 150 from Maxis Centres nationwide (and soon from its online store as well). Non-subscribers can also get them but for the regular RRP of RM 170. The prices may not be as good as it is in the states, which is fixed at US$ 35 (~RM 126), but at least the ones sold by Maxis will come with a 1-year warranty and also allows for a 1 to 1 replacement for a defective unit. All other retail channels are not official resellers and the devices sold by them will not be covered by Google in Malaysia.

Coming in at the final spot was the announcement of the MaxisONE Share plan. The plan allows MaxisONE subscribers to share the limitless talk and text allocation with up to a maximum of two MaxisONE Share supplementary lines. The primary line will also be able to allocate data to the share plans, and control the allocations by using the MyMaxis app or from the Maxis Online Portal. The primary line can allot from the available 500 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB, 3 GB or 4 GB options to the supplementary line, or top up even more data and select the 5 GB/No Limit options to share everything.

The MaxisONE Share plan is priced at RM 48 per line and requires minimum recurring 1 GB (priced at RM 30) data plan added on to the primary line. Furthermore, only the full MaxisONE plan is allowed to use this service; subscribers to the cheaper MaxisONE plan lite and MaxisONE plan start are not eligible. Moreover, the share feature from the primary line only works with MaxisONE Share and not with any other supplementary plans.
