Just a couple of months after the initial rollout of the video-on-demand streaming service, homegrown iflix has enabled Chromecast support for both its Android and iOS apps. iflix Malaysia CEO Azran Osman-Rani also took to Facebook’s ‘Malaysian Video Streamers’ enthusiasts group to announce that they are currently doing iflix HD trials.
If you have a Chromecast plugged into your TV, the Chromecast feature enables you to beam your iflix playback content directly to the big screen. Now that subtitles are already available for some iflix content, if not all, even the subs will be casted alongside the video stream itself. Some subtitles even come with Bahasa Melayu, which is awesome.
The iflix HD trial is so new, iflix hasn’t even announce it on their official Facebook Page yet, and CEO Azran Osman-Rani specifically chose the enthusiast group for trials. Currently, the HD stream is only available for Green Lantern and Kung Fu Panda. iflix said earlier that a 90-minute standard definition video is around 700MB in size, so do note that the HD content will be much larger in file size. All screens might get HD eventually, but at this point, it seems that HD is only available through Chromecast, and not the web browser or even the mobile apps.
iflix launched a few months back with the promise to offer subtitles, HD content, and offline caching. Now that it has delivered on the first and slowly rolling out the second, Azran said that the “download-now-play-later” feature is next on their list of priorities. From the post, Azran also said they might eventually roll out an official Amazon Fire TV app, since it’s Android anyway. He also confirmed the long-standing problem faced by ZenFone owners, where the iflix app wouldn’t even work (crashes?).
iflix is currently only available in Malaysia and the Philippines. Here, it is just RM10 a month, but if you were to subscribe for the whole year for RM96, each month you’ll be paying only RM8, which is a steal if you ask me. Content is scarce at this point, even when compared to Netflix, but iflix is constantly adding new shows.
Again, a no-brainer. Give iflix a whirl today, over at https://iflix.com/.
