Flipboard, your very own ‘magazine’ service, is now in its 3rd generation and the developers have introduced some new features as well as an updated app will more features. Moreover, Flipboard claims that there are now over 34,000 topics to choose from, which include magazines from prominent people, publishers, and over 10 million user-made ones.
The new Flipboard app is said to provide the most personal and most magazine-like experience on a smartphone. It has been designed to be easier to navigate and the new features remove the necessity for users to move to a desktop for other advanced options. The app now has tabs for Home, Following, Search, Notifications, and Profile. The Profile page can be viewed by other Flipboard users so that they can drill down to discover other magazines that a person, or so called MagMaker, curates. MagMakers can also use the Profile tab to check and manage their own magazines that they currently curate.
Another new service that Flipboard has created is called The Daily Edition and this will start off with 6 different localised versions, namely U.S., UK, Latin America, U.S. Latino, Brazil and India. It is a collection materials that are hand-picked and curated by the Flipboard team and will be available daily by 7am local time. The feed will appear on the Home tab, between existing tiles and users will just have to tap on the feed to see more from the set group of topics. The UK version starts off with ‘News Of The Day’ and is followed by ‘The Cover Story’, ‘Business Digest’, ‘Tech Report’, ‘Sport Roundup’, ‘Celebrity Chatter’, ‘Opinion’, ‘Big Ideas’, ‘Photos Of The Day’, ‘Today’s Track’, and finally, for a little bit of fun and to mark the end of the feed, the topic called ‘Parting GIF’.
For the MagMakers, Flipboard has also created a new web tool called My Analytics which provides an overview of how the curated articles are performing on Flipboard. The team will also highlight these creators on a new video series called ‘My Magazine’. The magazine will direct the spotlight on the personal journey and the magazines that are created by these inspiring individuals.
The Flipboard 3.0 update is now available and what’s more interesting is, apart from iOS and Android versions, Flipboard is also now available for Windows Phone, as well as for BlackBerry.
Finally, here’s a video by the CEO of Flipboard to mark the launch of the new Flipboard app:
