One of the more popular music streaming service in Malaysia — Spotify — has recently issued an iOS update for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, that brings an in-app equalizer for its users.
Spotify’s brand-new Equalizer feature brings to the table 22 audio presets for you to choose from; that includes acoustic, Classical, Electronic, Hip Hop, Loudness, and Small Speakers. As always, you can manually tweak your equalizer settings from within the app itself.
Naturally, this feature is tucked away neatly in the Settings page, and you can access it in Spotify by going to ‘Settings > Playback > Equalizer’.
Sten Garmark, Product Vice President at Spotify says, “A lot of our users have been asking for a built-in equalizer for a while now and it’s currently one of our most requested features on iOS. The Equalizer lets you adjust your audio settings based on the type of music you’re listening to, or the device you’re listening on, be that small speakers or portable headphones. Now you have even more control of your music.”
Besides the new Equalizer sliders, there were also quite a number of new features introduced in the past few weeks. Some of them include new sorting and filtering of playlists, better Play Queue controls, and offline search. The Discover page has also been consolidated into the Browse tab, unlike the desktop version where both Browse and Discover tabs are still separate.
It is not known at this point whether the Equalizer feature will be made available on Android and Windows Phone 8, but the former usually already has a global ‘DSP Manager’ app to handle this, especially if you’re on custom ROMs such as CyanogenMod.
This recent update was rolled out to the iOS App Store on July 30th, and you can get it by simply updating your existing app, or install it here if you haven’t already.
